Charace

Invention : Game, 2008

We made up a game.

We are tentatively calling it Charace (Charades + Race). The way we play it there are 2 teams of 6 people. Everyone gets a card that has a color and an action on it. There are only two colors which represent the teams and the actions on it are grouped into 2 themes (example: theme = travel / actions= driving a manual car, steering a boat, conducting a train…) You are not to tell anyone what your card says. Arrange yourself in a room or field where you will have enough room to act out whatever was written on your card. CLOSE YOUR EYES. One person from each team will have received a card with a color, a theme, and the words EYES OPEN. This person is the catalyst. The person with their eyes open (you) will look at the crowd of people with their eyes closed who are acting out their cards- you will have to judge which of them are acting in accordance to the theme on your card. Once you have decided that you think you know what someone is doing (say the theme is illness and you see someone acting like they have a stomach ache) – then you approach that person and say the color on your card. If you guess right* then you run to your “base” – and the person who was acting is now allowed to open their eyes and now they have to find someone who is doing something similar and approach them. The objective is to free everyone on your team and have them run back to their base- the first team to have everyone back at the base wins. *If you guess wrong the acting person will keep their eyes closed and say wrong and you will have to keep guessing.
